NARRAGANSETT - If you were to describe the last five years of your life, would you start at the beginning, or start from the end?

"The Last Five Years," opening Feb. 27 at The Towers in Narragansett, is the story of one couple's deep but exhausted love. As their five-year relationship comes to an end, Jamie Wellerstein explains his side of the story from meeting to breakup, while Cathy Hyatt recalls their relationship from breakup to meeting. Consistently alternating between time periods, the characters divulge the love, humor and loneliness they experience through their heartfelt songs.

After the sold-out success of its holiday show "Gift of the Magi," the Contemporary Theater Company is excited to present its first full-length musical. Written by Jason Robert Brown, "The Last Five Years" was performed off-Broadway in 2002, winning the Drama Desk award for outstanding music and lyrics.

"This is certain to be one of our most memorable pieces ever," said Artistic Director Christopher Simpson. "The talent involved is simply overwhelming. And with its stunning ocean view and striking architecture, I cannot think of a better place for this musical masterpiece than The Towers."

"We are thrilled to have The Contemporary Theater Company performing in our hall," said Kate Vivian from The Towers. "With its recent restoration, this space is a perfect host for a flourishing young arts organization like the CTC."

The company will also collaborate with Kabuki Restaurant & Lounge, Wakefield's Japanese Cuisine hotspot. After each performance, the restaurant will host the cast and invites all audience members to join them for a complimentary drink.

The Contemporary Theater Company's production will feature a seven-piece orchestra, including musicians from the string quartet La Bella Musica. Completing the show with riveting vocals are Matthew Royalty-Lindman and Erika Van Pelt, both of South Kingstown, and director Ryan Hartigan, a doctorate student at Brown University.

"The Last Five Years" will be performed Saturday, Feb 27, Thursday, Mar. 5, Friday, Mar. 6 and Saturday, Mar. 7 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee performance on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. General admission tickets are $15 and may be purchased at the door, at the Narragansett Chamber of Commerce or online at www.thecontemporarytheater.com. The Towers is located at 35 Ocean Road, Narragansett and is handicapped accessible. For more information or to reserve tickets, call (401) 228-5175.
