| CTC presents 'Eurydice' | |
For Immediate Release S. KINGSTOWN THEATER REIMAGINES CLASSICAL LOVE STORY SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Travel to the Underworld this month with the Contemporary Theater Company’s “Eurydice.” Playwright and Brown University graduate Sarah Ruhl offers a modern reimagining of the Orpheus myth told from the heroine’s point of view. A tragic accident on their wedding day separates Orpheus and Eurydice and sends the young bride to the doorstep of Hades, where she meets the absurdly childish Lord of the Underworld and his posse of petulant stones. While Orpheus searches for his bride, in death Eurydice is reunited with her late father and learns how love can span eternity. But with an insistent Lord desiring a bride and a Hades that feels more like a childhood home, will such strength be enough? “Our performers and crew bring all their artistic sophistication to the table to tell this new classic,” Artistic Director Christopher J. Simpson said. “We aim to bring South County a spectacle to match autumn - dazzling, colorful and deeply moving.” The production stars Meghan Rose Donnelly of South Kingstown as Eurydice, Steph Rodger of Coventry as the Lord of the Underworld, Maxwell Mathews of South Kingstown as Orpheus and Kevin Killavey of Portsmouth as Eurydice’s father. Company Artistic Fellow Shawn Fennell, of Providence, directs. “Eurydice” shows Oct. 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. at the South Kingstown High School Auditorium.
