We believe that the arts and the local community are inherently intertwined. Indeed, the mission of the Contemporary Theater Company is to inspire, to entertain and to push the imaginations of the community. The South County, Rhode Island community forms our audience, our supporters, our friends, our family.

We present theatrical performances for people we see daily on Main Street in Wakefield and others that we see at neighborhood events or at dinner at a local eatery. We teach South Kingstown High School students and we are proud to offer a scholarship for college-bound high school seniors. We purchase our costumes, props and office supplies at local businesses. We draw our cast, crew and administrative staff primarily from South County.

We believe in our state and participate in the R.I. State Council on the Arts Passport Program, which provides free tickets to high school students at participating schools. We are happy to work with schools to accommodate student groups at theatrical productions and can often send cast and crew into the classroom to speak with students about the literary importance of the production and the value of the arts.

We partner with nonprofit organizations to donate tickets to worthy causes and we work with those that want to dabble in theater for the first time.

We are proud and honored to call South Kingstown and Rhode Island our home. Not only because it is where we received our start, but because of the roots we have established and the connections we have made. We could not imagine ourselves anywhere else.

We welcome your partnership proposal or request for speakers or tickets. For more information please e-mail Chris Barrett at Barrett@thecontemporarytheater.com.
